I am really thankful for a little 6 month old girl, called London, that has "come into our lives". She has done two impossible things...
1. Brett is no longer a girl hater
AND
2. Brett is starting to accept the idea of having children, in general.
Thanks London! Her family moved into the ward a few months ago and Brett (although reluctant to name a favorite baby, has confessed to me on several occasions that London is his fav.).
Little Story:
A few Sunday's ago we held/played with London the whole sacrament meeting (which demonstrates what a good baby she is). Brett held her, I held her, then our friend Christian wanted to hold her. As I was handing London past Brett to Christian, Brett took her and said, "I just want to give her one more hug." He gave her a little hug and passed London reluctantly to Christian. So tender.
London kept flopping over and eating Brett's watch, and he loved it. Her mom says, "She doesn't have strong core" and needs to do some palates. It was pretty funny.
Here is just a cute pic of London and her mom Kate.

Big Deal
Brett has kind of been a "big deal" around our house lately. He ran 26.2 miles in St. George (his first marathon) AND he got his first full time job as a grown up. I really feel like he's taken this graduated-adult-thing to a whole 'nother level this month, with all of his goal accomplishing.
My dad also ran the marathon, it was officially his 10th marathon (Go Dad!). Both of them ran pretty much the time they wanted, we attended the famous convention with lectures and free sport energy things and granola bars. So, I would say it was a successful experience.
Brett's job, has many pro's 1. Its a job...yeah! 2. Its in La Jolla...and he can ride his scooter...yes! 3. Its business-y 4. He has a friend that works there 5. (and probably the most important point) He can still surf as much as he wants before 8pm!!! I don't know why he enjoys leaving the house at 5:30am, but he does. So, I just let him fly. Also he tried something new this week and swam, just swam, in the ocean. Not the ocean by the beach but by the cove, sort of by the seals. A little creepy, I was honestly a little worried he was going to loose a limb or something.

Kid Culture

Ok, so, I don't have kids. But, my sis-in-law Cass does (three adorable ones might I add, one of them is pictured above...and actually you can see two little blonde toe heads in the background, those are her boys), and she and few others have started a pretty wonderful blog about introducing kids to "big culture in little bites". And, since I've been back at school I am all about promoting art and culture :). This blog really has some awesome ideas...so, check it out!

First Day of School

I never thought I would have another "first day of school". But, it happened, today. I had my first day of grad school at San Diego State. The whole thing was very exciting to me. Being outside in sunshine at 10:00am...awesome! Learning about art all day...awesome! Having to think about design and floor plans and finishes all day...awesome! Not having to wake up everyday at 6:00...also really awesome! Having Friday's off...priceless!

Evalyn
YES!! I finally met Evalyn. I LOVED her and her cute simle and personality. She was fun, walking, talking jibberish. Everything you could ever want in a baby. I'm SO glad Matt and Kat came to La Jolla. They are such good friends and so fun. I'm glad we were together the day Kathleenie got engaged (kinda cute to be with your childhood friend). Anyway they are awesome, I'm so lucky to have friends with such an adorable daughter.
We were all laughing about something and Evalyn just poped her little head up from her crib and starting laughing with us. She likes to party :)

Bachelorette- Chris's Dad
I know its been a while but I HAVE to comment about this week, because it was the all important "Home Town Dates".
Kirk: Totally mid west. A friend of mine said she thought Kirk's mom was trying to look like a 13 year old girl, with braces, and bleached hair. The dad obviously very scary at first that then surprisingly there was a pretty good heart to heart with Ali at the end. But clearly this was not the ideal fam choice.
Roberto: Overall fine. The dad brought up some great points about careers, and I've decided that Roberto needs a stay at home mom, not career girl Ali. But, Ali does heart Roberto.
Chris: Oh, where do I even begin! I am in LOVE with Chris's dad! Don't you just want to shrink him down and put him in your pocket. So, kind, loving, welcoming and full of wisdom...what a cool father-in-law to have?! I mean I like my dad, a lot, and I don't know if he's as warm etc. as Chris's dad. Does anyone have a dad like Chris's dad? I've never met one.
Frank: Oh, Frank. I can't even look at you, for two reasons. One I know you break Ali's heart, do to the way too revealing previews. Second, what is with the super low cut shirt?! I mean your family looked really normal, did you dad or sister not think to say little too metro Frank. Guess not. That's probably why he still lives at home.
Final Thoughts: I am beginning to think that Chris is way to good for Ali, Roberto is not the right fit, and Franks a over analytical jerk. So, unfortunately I'm not too hopeful for the final rose ceremony. I really hope i'm proven wrong, or else I've wasted at least 50 hours of my life I'll never get back.
PS: Jake is a jerk. Did you ever think Jake would make Vienna look normal?
*Also here's a link to my friends blog, a little male perspective on the whole Bachelorette situation (very funny)

Trevor!!!
Well, first of all, I'm sorry I didn't write about the Bachelorette. But lets be honest, the tattoo reveal was a let down, as was Kirk's "horror story". But I can't wait to watch this weeks episode, where there is a dissenter, with a (Gasp!) girlfriend.
So, my baby bro came home from his mission, and its pretty dang cool. He's tall, handsome, spiritual and going to BYU (hint hint: just is case Whitney knows anybody super cool). I love being able to call him anytime I want. I am so proud of my brother and his service in New Jersey. Love you Trev!
(No that's not really two Trev's, its me and Brett...my mom is pretty creative :)
There were about 7 people (who were of the older, retired variety) at Palm Springs Airport. They loved us with our signs and faces of my brother, probably the highlight of their week.

Brett Graduated!
We are all very excited about this, well, except for Brett. You see we are still coming out of the Great Recession and Brett's dream job may or may not be around the corner. He has had a pretty sweet life, especially the last three months, so he's a little sad for it to end. Two days of class, three days of surfing is coming to an end. But, that being said everyone (me) in our little family is REALLY proud of him. He worked really hard and was a great student, he even got an A+ his last quarter, I mean who gets an A+ in college?! He's amazing. And I know there are great things waiting for him :)
Also a big thanks to the Montgomery's, Hawkins, and Jackman's for coming down to celebrate with us! And for all your love and support!

Bachelorette - Kasey
i can not begin to express the joy that filled my heart as i watched the events unfold before my eyes last night. Kasey, Kasey, Kasey!!!! He made this THE most entertaining episode, probably ever.
Between the impromptu songs and his famous 'I'm here to guard and protect your heart' line, I just could not be happier.
And WHY the tat? I get it, you're a heart protector, but do you literally have to get a heart on your sleeve? No, you don't. I think my new fav Chris L said it best, when he said "That sucks for him, because now, for the rest of his life, he's going to be the bachelorette heart tattoo guy." Seriously Chris L....Seriously!!! What was he thinking?! Oh my. The best part about this was that he didn't even have the cajones to show the tat to Ali. She STILL doesn't know the extent of his crazy! AND she gave him a rose...because of candy, what that his moment of redemption, CANDY!?!?
This weeks episode did prove for me though that Justin (The Wrestler) isn't here "for the right reasons". Because he was WAY to excited to expose Kasey (as crazy as he may be), and he doesn't seem that into Ali just more the game and looking cool in front of the other guys.
Frank, I've really grown to love the past few episodes, despite the intense eyes, he does seem to have kind of a cool connection with Ali.
Roberto, hot body, its true...even when he's wearing a lion king diaper. They definitely shared something there, not quite sure what it was...
Chris L., has a fond place in my heart after this week. Was it the soup, the flowers, or the sexy kiss on the roof top, I'm not sure. But all I know is I'm team Chris L. :)
Yes!!! I LOVE this show!
Yep, that's the photo I chose to be on my blog....

Bachelorette
Ok, I know this is WAY over due. But we had a little event called a graduation is past week (Go Brett...pics to come!).
Highlights:
-Rated R walking 2 miles up hill in his crutches to "make the most out of his time with Ali"...I don't think that's what Chris Harrison had in mind.
-Rated R's man tears...really necessary, I think not.
-Who can forget the awkward scene with The Weatherman and the kiss, or lack thereof. You know at first I felt bad for the weatherman, but now I think he needs to commit to what team he's playing for. Seriously, cowboy up!
-Hunter's date, incredibly awkward. But good for Ali to at least give him a chance, a charity date if you will. But, could he please stop calling her baby!!!
-Surprise of the episode, Kirk. He came out of left field to totally have chemistry with Ali. I say good for him. He's looking cuter and cuter every episode.
-Roberto = Boring. Sorry, but the eye candy card can only last for so long.
-Dear Chris (cape cod), I can't wait for your one on one date with Ali. I really want you to succeed. You seemed really funny at the end when you were trying to catch the mouse.
-The impromptu blanket and candle date guy I think should have gotten a rose over the weatherman. He proved he can be creative, put forth some effort, and be a man!
I almost forgot about this uncomfortable moment. Ali attempting to pic a rose on Kirk's board shorts, while Rated R looks on :)

The Weeds

We are going to miss are dear friends The Weeds SO much! They were some of the first people we met when we came into the ward as a newly married couple. They were forced to be our friends because we were put on their activities committee. And then that committee friendship "blossomed" into a real one. Full, of bbq, games, and laughter. I'm kind of writing a little funny right now, but seriously, these people are awesome. The kind of friends that would do anything for you and you only meet maybe a couple times in a lifetime. We miss you guys already, and wish we could live by you forever!!! (but we understand that ophthalmology residency is important too :)

The Un-Obvious
I saw someone, awhile ago on their blog, create a list of un-obvious things they liked. And I thought it was kind of fun. So here's mine (feel free to share some of yours or create your own list, its pretty entertaining).
The Un-Obvious Things I like:
-Laughing until I cry
-Sea Creatures (i.e. Coral, starfish)
-Brand New Magazines with crisp pages
-Wrapping Presents
-Matching pajama sets
-The the end of ‘The Bachelor’ when they say “Next week on the Bachelor”…YES, bring on the preview!!
-Brett’s Health smoothies. It’s like your body says, “thank you.”
-Games…and I REALLY like winning them
-I long hot shower
-MSN, I feel so informed/connected when I’m stuck in my box at work
-Gwyneth Paltrow
-Houses with shutters
-Putting on my makeup with brushes, I know, weird. But I feel like a pro makeup artist.
The Un-Obvious Things I don’t:
-Heavy breathers
-Finishing a good book (I actually get really sad)
-My father in law’s name (Dick)...a little awkward, probably because I’m so immature.
-When I think about something all day and I'm so excited to do it when I get home, and then BOOM, surprise we’re not able to do that thing anymore; sudden change of plans, no bueno.

Bachelorette - Weatherman vs. Hair Guy

So, this past week Ali actually started going on "dates". The classic one-on-one dates and the always entertaining group dates. And of course the real highlight of the episode has to be the battle between Weatherman and Craig (ie. good vs. dangerous)
Frank:
Had the first one-on-one (he has glasses and the super intense eyes, right). So, anyway, he seemed pretty funny and capable of going with the flow, a la the broken down car and random paparazzi pics. They full on made out at the end of the date. And now frank feels they are "boyfriend and girlfriend". Many of my friends and family enjoy Frank however, maybe he falls in love too quickly and maybe his intense eyes are a sign of maybe a too intense personality.
The prediction: Makes it to #3 and get kicks off heartbroken, in the limo there will be tears because he thought their connection was so strong
Now lets get down to the nitty gritty....
Weatherman vs. Craig:
This has to be one of the most intense rivals since Ali v. Vienna :) After labeling Craig as "dangerous" I thought there were going to be some fists thrown. Alas, no, because Weatherman is a little too metro/something else. I felt like I wanted to go into that group of men making fun of him and protect him. And then, that's when I thought I shouldn't want to protect a man he should be able to protect/stand up for himself. I think Ali knows this, Weatherman isn't very manly. Craig on the other hand is a jerk, that makes other people feel bad about himself to make him feel better and serious he looks really old and slimy, not attractive. See ya Ma-Lee-A!!!
Prediction: Weatherman will go next episode, well either him or Hunter. I mean seriously...Hunter??? Who is that guy?!
I had other comments but I waited too long and yeah, they're gone now.

Bachelorette

I don't know quite where to begin. But, I will say that those could have been the most awkward Limo/Intro/Initial Meetings in the history of the Bachelor. It was making me nervous. The most notable where "Shooter" and "Boots". At this point in the game I don't know names, but hopefully my descriptions aren't too difficult to understand :)
Again I say, as I do every season, do they really pick the people they think would be the best match for Ali or just put all the applicants in a bag and pull out the first 25? Really.
The Men:
Mr. Outdoors-y?????? At first I thought what?! But then I thought braces and a new haircut/wardrobe and this guy could be the next Bachelor...well and maybe a real job too. His going away speach was pretty heart warming though, i must say.
Cape Cod/Mom Died - I like the idea of him, but he does seem a little boring, but then again, so was Jake and Ali "loved" him too.
Weird Voice/Heart Protector - Kinda reminds me of the boy version of Michelle from last season, "here for the right reasons" but crazy stalker.
Speaking of, if I hear the token "He's not here for the right reasons" one more time I might get a bit sick to my tummie. Like anyone even really knows what that means, and who cares?!?! Ali will figure it out right? She's smart, right? Well, maybe they do need to tell her :)
The Weatherman...had a nice tie but a little too goofy don't ya think?
Glasses/Paris/Screen Writer/Lives At Home - not impressed by his 'passion'. But I guess he and Ali do have unemployed and homeless in common. Now that I think of it he'll probably make at least top 10 for sure.
Last but not least the gem that fell through the cracks 'Blonde/Brother Died' if anyone was here for the 'right reasons' :) it was him, so promising. He must have been real awkward in person. Dunno?
The season looks promising. I think Ali's long term boyfriend is here for sure. Husband...yeah right!

Sac-Town

Just in case you were wondering, Nevada City is actually in California!! We definitely did NOT know that.

I went to a little gem called Sacramento last weekend. I have had several comments like..."why?" Why would I go to Sacramento, I'll tell you why:
-My bestest friend since I was 12 lives there.
-All the streets are tree lined...ALL of them!
-There is a super cute downtown area.
-You can ride your bike anywhere in the city, because every street has a bike lane.
-There is an adorable block called "The Fab 40's" where all the houses are different and beautiful. And they basically look like the American Dream.
-There is an AWESOMELY Delicious french place called "Cafe Rolle", owned by a real french guy.
-They have an awesome drive in movie place, that is $6 for TWO movies.
-There is an old town area like San Diego.
-They have a river and parks everywhere.
SO, as you can see Sacramento is a little diamond in the rough. THAT'S why I went there! I recommend it for a three day weekend, for sure.

Mother's Day
So, for Mother's Day we did a what I like to call a '2-fer', like Disneyland, but moms. We got to see both moms for Mother's Day it was awesome! They both spoiled us and took care of us more than we did them. But, they're moms that's just how they roll, right?
Thanks for being so great and raising such wonderful children ;)(insert sarcasm)
PS: I just learned that sarcasm doesn't have an 'i' - who knew!

Camping

A few weeks ago we went camping with some friends. It was only about 1 hour outside of San Diego. We had dressed for late April cold San Diego weather (50/60 at night). Much to our surprise we got SNOW instead. That's right 6 inches of snow covering our campsite and more like 40 degree weather. Awesome. One of our friends was even wearing shorts. Well, it was an "adventure" for sure.
We had brought games and delicious food. But we pretty much just stayed as close the the fire as we could and didn't have the energy to play games. Sad. How did those pioneers do it? No, really? But don't worry we still a good time.
At about 10pm we called it quites and nestled into our sleeping bags. I tried and tried, but really it was just too cold for me to sleep. So, I turned to a sleeping Brett and poked his nose (which was the only part of his body outside of his mummy bag). He awoke, and I said, "I'm cold, I can't sleep, help me." He immediately turned my sleeping bag into a mummy bag moved my pillow, worked some magic, held my ears and started blowing warm air on my face. Comical, yes. But, all I could say as I was thawing out was, "Thank you".
Its amazing how sometimes, even though you are a fully capable woman, you are just helpless and need your husband. In some situations, they're just really nice to have around :)
